NCLEX-RN

NCLEX Study Guide Maker

The NCLEX tests clinical judgment, not just recall. Under the 2026 NCLEX-RN Test Plan (effective April 1, 2026 through March 31, 2029), the exam is computerized adaptive: every candidate answers at least 85 items and at most 150, within a five-hour limit that includes breaks. In a minimum-length exam, 52 items come from the eight Client Needs content areas, 18 items form three clinical judgment case studies, and 15 are unscored pretest items. Each case study follows the six steps of the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model: recognize cues, analyze cues, prioritize hypotheses, generate solutions, take action and evaluate outcomes.

Try an example:

Management of Care (15–21%) and Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies (13–19%) are the largest Client Needs subcategories. Practical nurse candidates take the NCLEX-PN, which has its own test plan.

Study Guide Maker turns your nursing course slides, text-based PDF readings, Word docs or notes into focused guides — key concepts tagged to the page they came from, a glossary, practice questions and flashcards. Choose the College level, make one guide per course topic, and pair it with practice in the NCLEX item formats.

Cellular Respiration

Cellular respiration is how cells turn the chemical energy in glucose into ATP. It happens in three stages — glycolysis, the Krebs cycle, and the electron transport chain — and releases carbon dioxide and water as by-products.

  1. 1. Overview of cellular respiration

    • Overall equation: C6H12O6 + 6 O2 → 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + energy (ATP + heat).p. 1
    • Aerobic respiration needs oxygen and yields far more ATP than fermentation.p. 1
  2. 2. Glycolysis

    • Glucose is split into two pyruvate molecules in the cytoplasm, producing a net gain of 2 ATP and 2 NADH.p. 2
    • Glycolysis does not require oxygen.p. 2
  3. 3. Krebs (citric acid) cycle

    • Takes place in the mitochondrial matrix; each acetyl-CoA produces 3 NADH, 1 FADH2, 1 ATP and 2 CO2.p. 3
  4. 4. Electron transport chain

    • Located in the inner mitochondrial membrane; NADH and FADH2 donate electrons that pump H+ ions and drive ATP synthase.p. 4
    • Oxygen is the final electron acceptor and forms water.p. 4

Frequently asked questions

How many questions are on the NCLEX-RN?

Under the 2026 RN Test Plan, candidates answer a minimum of 85 and a maximum of 150 items within five hours, including breaks. The exam is computerized adaptive, so length varies by candidate.

What are the NCLEX Client Needs categories?

Safe and Effective Care Environment (Management of Care 15–21%; Safety and Infection Prevention and Control 10–16%), Health Promotion and Maintenance (6–12%), Psychosocial Integrity (6–12%), and Physiological Integrity (Basic Care and Comfort 6–12%; Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies 13–19%; Reduction of Risk Potential 9–15%; Physiological Adaptation 11–17%).

What are NCLEX case studies?

A case study is a set of six items that follows the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model: recognize cues, analyze cues, prioritize hypotheses, generate solutions, take action and evaluate outcomes. A minimum-length exam includes three case studies (18 items).

Does Study Guide Maker produce NCLEX-style case studies?

No. It creates multiple-choice and short-answer practice questions from your own course material. Use the official NCLEX tutorial and practice resources for the exam's item formats.

Is it free?

You can make 2 guides a day without an account, or 10 a month after signing in with Google.
